“The Shepherd’s Rug” Weaving class at Old Mill Yarn

Braiding Rugs using Wool Roving
Workshop taught by Letty Klein
Date: Saturday, May 17th, 2008
Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (one hour lunch break included)

Description: In the class you will braid a rug using wool roving You will braid three strands of the roving tightly for form long ropes. These ropes are then felted by washing them in a washing machine and drying them in a dryer. The ropes are artfully sewed together in the traditional method, making strong, beautiful and durable rug. In the class students will make a chair pad using the above method.

Class Structure:

Ø AM – preparing roving and braiding
Ø Lunch Break
Ø PM – Sewing techniques and construct a chair pad
Fee:  $50.00 plus wool roving for braiding the rug -

Spinning Classes

Beginning Spinning with Pat Tirrell

Date: Saturday, April 5, 2008

Time: 10:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.

Fee: $30.00 Sign up by September 1st with a $10.00 deposit

Register by March 29th with $10.00 deposit by calling Old Mill Yarn at 517-663-2711. Credit cards accepted.

Class Size: Min 4, Max 7 student

Description: Students will learn how to choose a fleece and how to prepare a fleece for spinning as well as learning how to spinning.

You will need to bring:  If you have your own wheel, you are encouraged to bring it with you.  Students should bring a pencil, notebook, scotch tape and wear work clothes.  Wool for spinning will be provided.

 

Weaving Classes

Beginning Weaving with Marilyn Kempf

Date: Starting Saturday, April 5, 2008

Class Dates are: Apr 5, Apr 12, Apr 19, Apr 26, 2008

Time: 10:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m.

Fee: $65.00

Register by March 29th with $10.00 deposit due at that time.

Class Size: Min 3, Max 5 student

Description: Marilyn has written a book on beginning weaving and she will be using it in the class.

You will warp up the loom following her instructions.  You will be doing six different samplers when finished can be put into your book as reference information.  You need to bring pencil or pen, scissors, and tape measure.  The use of a loom and all material included is in the price of the class.

 

Inkle Weaving with Leslie Johnson

Date: Saturday, March 29, 2008

Time: 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Fee: $25.00

Register by March 26th with $10.00 deposit due at that time.

Class Size: Min 4, Max 10 student

Description: The small loom with the funny name is great for weaving belts, Guitar straps, handles for tote bags - even jewelry! This workshop covers selecting yarn, selecting warping and weaving on inkle looms, books and projected possibilities.

Looms are provided for the day at a fee of $5.00 extra.

You will need to bring: Notebook, pencil or pen


Rag Rug Weaving Basic with Leslie Johnson

Date: Saturday, April 26, 2007

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Fee: $25

Register by April 19th with $10.00 deposit due at that time.

Class Size Min 4, Max 8

Description: Rag rug weavers were the original recyclers, turning Mom's old house dresses or Dad's work clothes or Aunt Ethel's chenille bedspreads into rugs for the home, from the mudroom to the kitchen, bedrooms, bath and front stairs.  In this class, find out what you need to weave a good rag rug and some of the tricks of the trade, from selecting a loom, rags, warp and shuttles to weaving and finishing the rug.
